Five queer volunteers—hungry to connect—face a daily, impossible task. Armed with bread and knives, aprons and loss, inside the basement of a rural Unitarian Universalist church, they strive to feed hunger. Amid howls of scarcity, where do we go in search of safety, kindness, and heels of bread?

Hosting a Workshop for Betty's Daughter's Art Collective (CLOSED TO PUBLIC)

From Objects to Text & Movement to Performance

From Objects to Text & Movement to Performance is a workshop that utilizes personal items to help facilitate the creation of text and performance. It explores how we use objects to center our lives and re-membering of things and deepens the way in which we move through what these objects stir up inside.

A Note to Participants:

Trust that everything you are is enough. Below is a little list I have created so that you are ready to partake on the journey more intentionally. Every minute in the workshop is so important, so remember to come on time. Early is best. Like 5 minutes, so we can organize ourselves, change, get comfy and jump into our artistry together. Be open. Be willing and I promise you will discover new things about the creativity you carry.

  • The following items are necessary for participants to bring/wear:
    • A journal
    • Be in an outfit that is flexible (gym, baggy or loose fitting clothing that is easy to dance or move in)
    • A song that you love (any emotional range, but you must deeply have a desire to move to it)
    • A small piece of food you have a memory with (bring with your discretion, you don't have to bring a tray of lasagna, it can be your favorite ingredient from the dish or a spice or a piece of fruit, etc. )
    • An article of clothing or accessory that you wear often and have an attachment to
    • An image/picture/collage/visual object that tells us a story about who you are (without having to tell a story-- it is a story in itself)
    • A scene that does something to you (essential oil, flower, food, deodorant)
    • A quote that you have to share with the world

Renee begins Nicole Maxali's Course, Manifesting Magic

manifesting.jpg

Renee will be journeying with Nicole Maxali

& her course, "Manifesting Magic"

DESCRIPTION OF COURSE FOUND BELOW // PLEASE SEE HER WORK FOR MORE INFORMATION ON THE MAGIC SHE MAKES HAPPEN.

Inspired by books like “The Artist’s Way”, “The Secret” and Nicole’s real life experiences, this
experiential online course includes reflective writing exercises, meditation techniques,
and manifestation basics to help participants get out of their own way and manifest their
deepest desires.

Nicole provides a safe space to explore and express yourself and your true desires, all
the while tapping into the magic of manifesting. All levels are welcome. Participants
should be 18 years or older.

My intention for this course is to raise the collective vibration by standing for people to
rise to their own greatness. To teach people how to manifest magic in their own lives. To
get people out of victim mentality, fear and scarcity based thinking. To be proactive in
CREATING their dream lives. AND to loving themselves more.

- Nicole Maxali, Manifesting Since 1996

Reading of ORCHID RECEIPT SERVICES by Corinne Donly this Friday

The Brooklyn College Department of Theater, in association with Mac Wellman, Erin Courtney, and the Graduate Playwriting Program, cordially invite you to a reading of MFA candidate Corinne Donly's ORCHID RECEIPT SERVICE, the third installment in season six of our monthly Play-in-Progress Reading Series.

ORCHID RECEIPT SERVICES follows the relationship of Monte and Davey—two transmasculine people in their late twenties—as they drift into and beyond a breakup. A true story told by the playwright's subconscious mind, each scene in the play is an adaptation of a different dream. Spanning a period of two years—wherein dream-Monte and dream-Davey repeatedly attempt to make their parting real—ORCHID RECEIPT SERVICE provides a complete record of all the stages and symbols a psyche must move through as it learns to let go of another.

The reading of ORCHID RECEIPT SERVICE

is on Friday, February 17th at 2:30 PM

in the Jefferson Williams Lounge

on the 4th floor of SUBO

at Brooklyn College.

The reading will feature guest artists:  Asia Kate Dillion and Mieke Duffly and Brooklyn College students, alums and faculty: Leta Renne Alan, Andrea Aranguren, Chrissy Brinkman, Stephanie Bunch, Ally Callahan, Lisa Campbell, Kristi Dana, Renee Rises, Johanna Kozak, Jeremiah Maestas, Jimmy Morgan, Nelson Orellana, Connor Sheridan, Judylee Vivier and Jenna Zafiropoulos.  It will be directed by guest artist Jeremy Bloom.

Please join us for our newest collaboration with the Playwriting Program, and to support the development of another unique new voice in contemporary American theater.
